Day 1 ** Jul. 9 | Honolulu –> Shanghai
We start our vacation by boarding an International Flight to Shanghai. Meals and snacks will be served on the overnight flight.
Day 2 **Jul. 10 | Shanghai | (D)
Upon arrival at Shanghai International Airport, an Air & Sea travel representative will greet us and take us to our hotel after having dinner.
Day 3 **Jul. 11 | Shanghai | (B, L, D)
The Bund is the Landmark of Shanghai, with many historical buildings along the river. All these buildings were used by government organizations a few years back. Now, there are many restaurants, bars, clubs and boutiques in them. This morning, we will explore the Special Economic Zone of Pudong and walk along the East Side of Huangpu River with memorable views of the Bund and PuDong (the new financial district). Afterwards, we will visit the Oriental Pearl Tower (Second Ball), a TV tower that was the tallest structure in China from 1994–2007. It is classified as an AAAAA scenic area by the China National Tourism Administration. We have arranged a visit to a Silk Factory to see the process of silk production, from silkworms to finished goods and shop for silk products in the gift shop. Tonight, a special night tour has been arranged–a Boat Ride on the Huangpu River. We will be treated to a night view of Shanghai with buildings and towers ablaze with colorful lights. Shanghai’s landmark, the Oriental Pearl Tower, is especially bright and clear and stands out at night.
Day 4 **Jul. 12 | Shanghai | (B, L)
This morning, we will visit the Yuyuan Garden, a famous classic garden in the architectural style of the Ming dynasty. It is peaceful and beautiful throughout the year. Take some time to wander along the narrow paths, ponds, and bridges. After exiting the garden, we will be at the entrance to the Bazaar or Open Market at the City God Temple. We can enjoy shopping for souvenirs or checking out food shops. A local Dim Sum Meal will be arranged for lunch. Please enjoy the remainder of the day on your own. Tonight, we will enjoy a Chinese Acrobatic Show, ERA. Their death-defying acrobatic acts are excellent and will top other shows you may have seen. This 90 minute show with extremely skillful performers is one of the must-do-things or highlights in Shanghai.
Day 5**Jul. 13 | Shanghai | (B)
Shanghai Disneyland Park is a theme park located in Pudong, Shanghai. As the sixth in the world and the second in China (after Hong Kong Disneyland), Shanghai Disneyland holds many records among the Disney parks. It has the tallest themed castle – Enchanted Storybook Castle, the first garden-designed zone, and the first pirate-themed garden. It also combines movie figures with Chinese culture, like the Chinese Zodiac Murals in the Gardens of Imagination. Visitors can enjoy classical musicals and stage plays, like Tarzan: Call of the Jungle, Frozen: A Sing-along Celebration, and The Lion King. Mickey’s Storybook Express cruises through the six parks during the day. With inspiring music, the movie figures put on interesting performances on the street and give guests an unforgettable great time. Round trip transportation and admission are included.
Day 6 **Jul. 14 | Shanghai –> Chengdu | (B, D)
Today, we will take a flight to Chengdu, the eighth largest city in China and one of the most important economic, transportation, and communication centers in Western China. Chengdu Shuangliu Airport is rated one of the top 50 airports in the world. After dinner, enjoy a famous Sichuan Opera – Mask Changing.
Day 7 **Jul. 15 | Chengdu | (B, D)
Today’s highlight is Panda Keeping Volunteer. Dujiangyan Giant Panda Base, the Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Pandas (CCRCGP), is located in Shiqiao Village of Qingchengshan Town. It serves as a panda “nursing home” where they receive special care. Today, we will be the keeper for the Panda. Enjoy your close contact with the lovely Panda. After that, we will visit the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, considered the pride of Sichuan province. About 2,200 years ago, Sichuan was threatened by flooding which took many people’s lives. A local governor and his son decided to build an irrigation system to save their province from flooding. The project consisted of three important components: Yuzui, Feishayan and Baopingkou, scientifically designed to automatically control the water flow of the rivers from the mountains to the plains throughout the year. Today after 2,200 years, the Dujiangyan Irrigation System still plays a crucial role in draining floodwater, irrigating farms and providing water resources to more than 50 cities in the province. After that, we will return to Chengdu.
Day 8 **Jul. 16 | Chengdu | (B, L, D)
After breakfast we will drive to Pidu district of Chengdu to visit the Chengdu Sichuan Cuisine Museum, a national AAA level scenic spot. It is the first museum in the world to display and teach an original cooking culture. You will not only learn the history of Sichuan Cuisine, but also have a chance to watch the whole cooking process and practice cooking Sichuan food. Lunch is your own creation! In the afternoon, we will return to Chengdu.
Day 9 **Jul. 17 | Chengdu –> Beijing | (B, L)
This morning, we will visit Kuanzhai Ancient Street of Qing Dynasty, an ancient shopping street from the Qing Dynasty. Kuanzhai means wide and narrow and street means “alley” or the old slow life in Chengdu. We will walk through and explore Chengdu courtyard culture. After lunch, we will transfer to the airport for our flight to Beijing, the huge capital of China and an ancient city of great splendor whose history goes back 3 millennia.
Day 10 **Jul. 18 | Beijing | (B, L, D)
Today’s highlight is the fabled Great Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a massive defensive structure built to keep intruders out. China has many things to see, but the one great wonder is the Great Wall. We will learn about its construction 2,000 years ago and examine first-hand one of the most scenic portions of its 5,500-mile length wall. The Great Wall is 25 feet tall, 15-30 feet wide and is the largest object ever made by humans. The view is awesome! Then, we will visit a Jade Workshop to learn about Chinese jade culture. After lunch, we will visit The Summer Palace, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. This Palace was a former summer retreat for the imperial family during the late Qing Dynasty. Presently, it is China’s largest and best-preserved royal garden. We will also view the beautiful Long Corridor, Longevity Hill, and Kunming Lake. Tonight’s Welcome Dinner features China’s famous Peking Duck.
Day 11**Jul. 19 | Beijing | (B, L)
Today we will tour the world’s largest plaza, Tian’ Anmen Square, which covers over 100 acres. This square is lined with monumental public buildings, fronting the legendary Forbidden City. Acres of splendid 15th century halls and pavilions graced with imperial treasures now comprise the Palace Museum. Following the Forbidden City, we will visit a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Temple of Heaven. It is highly regarded as the best example of religious architecture in all of China. This is where emperors came to worship for a bountiful harvest. The design illustrates heaven is high and the earth is low, reflecting an ancient Chinese saying ‘the heaven is round and the earth is square’. In the late afternoon, we will go to the Red Theater to learn about the amazing Chinese martial art by watching the Legend of Kungfu. The story is about a young boy who overcomes many obstacles and difficulties to pursue his dream of being a Kung Fu master and attain enlightenment. He studies in the temple as a little boy and practices Kung Fu.
Day 12 **Jul. 20 | Beijing –> Shanghai –> Honolulu | (B)
Today, we will we will transfer to the airport for our return flight via Shanghai, ending our fantastic journey in China.
