Ho Chi Minh City (Phu My) Highlight Tour (8 Hours)

Today, we will arrive at the port of Phu My (pronounced “Foo Me”), the gateway to Ho Chi Minh City and the seaside resort of Vung Tau.  Over three decades have passed since the Vietnam War ended with the fall of Saigon.  Today, the name of this bustling metropolis on the Mekong River is Ho Chi Minh City.  Yet, the essence of the city, a major trading center since the 18th century, remains unchanged.  The air is filled with the cries of street hawkers and honking horns.  Bicycles, motorbikes and automobiles fly down the boulevards at dizzying speeds.  And everywhere, we encounter friendly faces and warm greetings.  As we follow the Saigon River and pass through a landscape of small villages, rice paddy fields, and rubber trees, we will arrive at Ho Chi Minh City.   First stop is the National History Museum of Vietnam whose collection traces the cultural history of Vietnam with exhibits that feature stone and bronze artifacts, Champa art, ceramics and traditional costumes.  At the National Museum Theater, we can enjoy a traditional Vietnamese water puppet performance.  We will have an orientation tour of the Opera House, Notre Dame Cathedral, the French Colonial Post Office and a photo stop at Independence Palace or the Former Presidential Palace of South Vietnamese government before 1975.  After enjoying the famous traditional Vietnamese Noodles Lunch, we will have a brief visit at Ben Thanh Market to shop before heading back to the pier.

Day 9**Jan 9 | Nha Trang, Vietnam
This morning, we will arrive Nha Trang, Vietnam.  Ships disembark at 8:00 AM and embark at 4:00 PM.  We can explore the city on our own or join some optional tour.

This morning, we will arrive Da Nang, Vietnam.  Ships disembark at 9:00 AM and embark at 7:00 PM.

Vietnam – Best of Da Nang (7 Hours)

Da Nang is the biggest commercial, educational and transportation hub of this part of Vietnam, but before its modern incarnation, this region was part of the Champa Kingdom, which ruled here between the 7th and early 19th centuries. Some descendants of this kingdom, the Cham people, still live in this region and speak a distinct Malayo-Polynesian language.  First, we will transfer to Marble Mountain Village, one of the premier attractions in Da Nang.  This group of five striking limestone and marble hills marks the site of caves, temples and, at its base, lovely gardens and a stone-carving village, where sculptors create beautiful artwork from the local marble.  Explore the Marble Mountains Cave of Heaven & Hell to admire the many altars carved into stone in the depths of the mountain.  Conclude our day with a relaxing visit to Marble Mountain Beach where you’ll enjoy refreshments and the natural beauty of this spot that was made famous during the Vietnam War, when American GIs spent time swimming and surfing on their off-hours at this glorious stretch of golden sand.  Now, the beach attracts surfers and tourists from around the world.  After enjoying the famous traditional Vietnamese Lunch, we will have a brief visit at the bustling Han Market before heading back to the pier.  Originally a small trading post during Vietnam’s time under French control, it has developed into a large marketplace offering flowers, footwear, fabrics, and fruit at excellent prices.
