Day 3|Sep 8|Shanghai|(B, L)
In the morning, we will explore the Special Economic Zone of Pudong and walk along the East Side of Huangpu River with memorable views of the Bund and the Huangpu River. The Bund was the Landmark of Shanghai with many historical buildings along the river that were used by government organizations. A few years back, many restaurants, bars, clubs, and boutiques opened in these buildings. Let’s drive along the Bund for a good view of the river and the opposite side of the PuDong (the new financial district) with its many skyscrapers. Then we will visit the bazaar or open market at the City God Temple to enjoy shopping at the souvenir and food shops.
Day 4 |Sep 9|Shanghai – Tunxi (Huangshan City)|(B, D)
Enjoy free time in the morning. In the afternoon, we will board a flight to Tunxi (Huangshan City). This beautiful ancient city is steeped in history and is a great bonus destination for tourists. It is the major gateway to Mt. Huangshan (Yellow Mountain). The Huangshan area is well known for its scenery, sunsets, oddly-shaped granite peaks, pine trees, and breathtaking views of the clouds from above. Upon arrival, we will visit the Tunxi Old Street which preserves a Song Dynasty atmosphere.
Day 5*|Sep 10|Huangshan – Mt. Huangshan|(B, L, D)
After breakfast, we will drive to Huangshan Scenic Area. This beautiful mountain range is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990. Upon our arrival, we will take a Cable Car to Mt. Huangshan and then walk for an hour to our hotel. Next, we will tour the Xihai Scenic Area in the west, stopping at Bright Peak, the second highest peak of Huangshan and Flying Rock. Bright Peak got its name from the long sunlight illumination time due to its high and spacious peak. Flying Rock got its name from the shape resembling a rock that has fallen from the sky. It is 12 meters high, 8 meters wide and weighs 360 tons. Lastly, we will head 1 km north to the Cloud-dispelling Pavilion, the best place for admiring the unique rocks, hence the nickname “Unique Rock Exhibition Hall”. Tonight, we will be lodging on the top of Mt. Huangshan.
Day 6|Sep 11VMt. Huangshan – Huangshan|(B, L, D)
Rise and shine! This morning, we take an early morning stroll to watch one of the most beautiful Sunrises on earth, with the sun emerging with nature. Then, we will tour the Beihai Scenic Area that includes Writing Brush Peak, Lion Peak, Refreshing Terrace, and Begin-to-Believe Peak. Enjoy the poetic and illusive atmosphere of the Black Tiger pine, Interlocking pine, and Chessboard pine. This area feels like heaven on earth, and the view looks like it came from an ancient Chinese drawing. Afterwards, we will take the Cable Car down and drive to Hongcun Village. All the buildings are built in the local architectural style with exquisite carvings and magnificent symbols of its time. Together with Xidi, Hongcun Village was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. An outstanding feature of the village is that its layout was designed to look like a buffalo. Many movies have been filmed here including the well-known Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Day 7|Sep 12|Huangshan – Hangzhou/Wuhan/Yichang – Yangtze River|(B, L, D)
Today we will drive to Hangzhou, fly to Wuhan, and then drive to Yichang, known as the “Gateway to the Three Gorges”. In the evening, we will start our Yangtze River Adventure when we board a luxurious and distinguished 5-Star River Cruise Ship — Century Legend. It is the newest, 5-star luxury modern river cruise with the largest cabins, quality service, true culinary treats and a variety of onboard activities.
Day 8|Sep 13|Yangtze River|(B, L, D)
In early morning, we can do Tai Chi exercise on deck. Tai Chi Chuan is a sophisticated method of fighting based on the reconciliation of dynamically interacting forces. Daily practice of Tai Chi promotes mental clarity and a healthy body, assists with balance and helps blood circulation. After a buffet breakfast, we will sail through Xiling Gorge, the longest of the three gorges known for its swift currents and dangerous shoals. We will take a Shore Excursion to the worksite of the Three Gorges Dam Sites. The dam is the largest water conservation project for flood control, generation, cultivation and flood discharge. The cruise will pass and navigate through the 5 Ship Locks at the Three Gorges Dam. In the evening we will have the Captain’s Welcoming Banquet and a Crew Cabaret show.
Day 9|Sep 14|Yangtze River|(B, L, D)
This morning, the ship will enter Wu Gorge, famous for its meandering waterways and mystical, ever-changing fog that hovers over the river. We will take a Boat Excursion to explore the Shennv Stream or “Goddess Stream”. The scenic area of Shennv Stream is a newly-developed scenic area with the construction of Three Gorges Project. Due to the perpendicular mountains, deep valleys and turbulent water, very few people reach this area, so the sceneries are still in pristine condition and are worth visiting. Some of them are so vivid that we would find it hard to believe they exist. After lunch, the ship will enter Qutang Gorge, the shortest, narrowest but most striking section of the three gorges, with sky-soaring majestic mountains on both sides. Tonight’s onboard entertainment will include Traditional Folk Songs and Dances.
Day 10|Sep 15|Yangtze River|(B, L, D)
Today, a Shore Excursion is scheduled to Shibaozhai (Stone Treasure Fortress), an isolated steep peak along the river bank. We can take a staircase to the top of a magnificent twelve-story red pavilion built on the peak. The Three Gorges Dam would have submerged the base of the red pavilion but a coffer dam was built around the base to protect it from the rising water level. After lunch, we can attend Culture Lectures. Topics include the evolution of the dam project and its importance to China, the immigration life of the people along the Three gorges, the history of Three Kingdoms, Chinese medicine, poetry by many famous Chinese sages, Chinese language, Chinese calligraphy, dumpling wrapping, etc. The Captain’s Farewell Dinner is arranged for tonight.
Day 11|Sep 16|Yangtze River – Chongqing|(B, L, D)
The Yangtze River Adventure concludes in the city of Chongqing. The city presents a unique magnificent picture with miles of roads and streets winding up and down the hills and along the riverbanks. Then we will visit The China Three Gorges Museum, which opened in 2005 with 40,000 square meters of exhibit space. It is near the People’s Square and the Great Hall of the People. In the afternoon, we will go to the Chongqing Zoo to see the Giant Pandas and the cat-like small pandas, as well as their offspring. We will also visit a Shopping Street to buy last minute souvenirs.
